Maitake mushrooms “Maitake” means dancing mushroom in Japanese. The mushroom is said to have gotten its name after people danced with happiness upon finding it in the wild, such are its incredible taste and healing properties. Maitake are delicious and have a wild, feathery look. To maintain their textural appeal, put away that knife and simply use your hands to get them into manageable pieces. Starting at the stem, break the cluster into large clumps with some of the core attached.
Maitake will grow on a wide range of hardwood logs & stumps and some conifers: oak, elm, maple, sycamore, beech, plum, peach, hemlock, and many others. Logs may be laid on their side & partially buried. We suggest you cover the plugs with the cheese wax
